Christmas Time by Courtney Mayer

Well hello again, for the month of December I have decided to post a blog about Christmas. The poem that I chose to do this month is called Christmas Time by Courtney Mayer. I chose this poem because I wanted to chose a poem based on the month, since this month is about Christmas I decided chose a Christmas poem, in January the poem would be about resolutions and a new year.

To me, this poem sounds kind of like "oh my god, another Christmas." I don't know why but it sounds like this person does not like Christmas or just looks at the bad things about Christmas. For example, in the poem it says: Nows' the time that it gets cold. It's getting close to the holidays, these Christmas songs are getting really old. Ain't these times supposed to be jolly days? Well, it really doesn't sound that way but it sounds bad. You'll be the judge of that.

To me, the poem means that Christmas time is the time where the family will gather and some relatives will pinch your cheeks even though you don't like it. Personally, I don't like my relatives pinch my cheeks because when they do it, it hurts a lot. Anyway, it also means that almost everyday carolers will be singing outside your door until you get tired of the same Christmas songs. When you go outside to play, you tend to fall and skin your knees. What the author is trying to say is that even though Christmas is the time where we all tend to be happy we still have some sad parts.

If you have other meanings to this poem please put it, it would really help.you be the judge of that.

Merry Holidays!!!
I love how you made your theme revolve around the Holidays. Ish.
Anyways, I read the poem, and no offense to you or the author, or anyone, but I didn't like it much. I can't tell if Mayer is trying to use anti-thesis as a method to write her poem or not because the examples she uses are kind of weak.

While you can conclude that Mayer is trying to show the darker side of Christmas, do you think the poem would have turned out better if Mayer used different, more extreme examples? i.e. some kids don't even get XMas presents or how some countries are during the time of XMas.

It's an okay poem.

p.s. Siddharta is a book about a man named Siddharta and his journey towards finding Nirvana, his inner self, and inner peace. It is short, but it's so powerful.

Vanessa,
Your blog was good. After i read your blog i alos agree that the author has bad asumtions about christmas. One thing is right though, Christmas is not all about happiness and fun because at times bad or sad parts to it are present.
Well good luck on your next blog!

Dear Vanessa,
When we think about Christmas we think about cold, presents, dinner and happy days. In the poem you talked about you stated that the author talks about Christmas as if she wasn't so happy about it because it was the same thing every year. I do agree that sometimes Christmas can be happy or sad. There are sometimes people that don't like Christmas because maybe something happen in a certian Christmas year and they don't want to be reminded of that. In other occassions there are people that don't celebrate or have Christmas because some don't have money to buy gifts or live in really bad conditions. I wonder if the author taught about that when she stated that she is not that big of a fan of Christmas when there are others that don't have the opportunity to have one.
p.s
Look at the link that I put in my blog for this month and you will see what I mean in terms of different types of authors.

Hello!

Not trying to bash or anything, but this month is also the month for Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. That's why people say "Happy Holidays" and not just "Merry Christmas", people celebrate other things.

Enough of that, i enjoyed your blog. I am happy to see that you took excerpts and interpreted what they meant to you.

Good job.

I didn't like the poem much myself. It was bland. It's cool how you found one about the holidays though.

Your description about Mayer's poem is right in my opinion. She seems to talk about the negative aspects about christmas. It's not really much of a controversial poem as to one that may have double meaning. I love reading poems, but many times i love it more when i find one that I can find a meaning for that know one else has.

Vanessa,
Nice theme there. The author really didn't seem to enjoy the time. Maybe the author's experience during the holiday's was not pleasant. My interpretation is that maybe to her, the holidays seemed too repetitive. So she got bored of it and it lost all meaning to her. It was a short simple poem, but it brought that message across.

Hey There,

I don't know what to say or what to think. The poem seems too generic and after what i herd on the news Xmas doesn't always guarentees happiness. I mean, this guy dresses up like santa claus and kills everyone in the house. Then like if that wasn't enough he kills himself. I don't know about you, but there has ben some xmas that i do not want to remember and there are some xmas that i would always want tor relive.

Anyways, despite everything bad and sad been said, we shoild keep in mind that not all xmas moments are going to be happy ones

Hello Vanessa,
how u been its been a while
well
let me begin by restating that i love the way you write. Your writting has always been able to catch my attention. Well christmas, had always been a oart of my life which meant happiness, family, money, gifts, and more money, and maybe the occasional sip of vodka when my parents werent watching. But years change i guess you start to see the differences the problems of the upcomiing new year and you start to see how cold and heartless a year can make you

Hello,
Do you remember the comment that you gave me. !. The words that I choose are from work that we get or words that i see in a book or a newspaper. 2. The reasons why I choose these words are to not only show readers a new word, but as well for me to learn something new that will now only help me but as well the readers. 3. Well it depends on the perspective of people but in my point of view, I felt the need to apologize to people who were reading from my blog so nobody would get offended in the process.

Ok now I think it was a good idea for you to write a poem based on the holidays. But it is also true, like diana said, that the holidays are not only christmas maybe you could of done one about Kwanzaa or another holiday. In my point of view the writer is right/wrong. Yeah there is times when the holidays can be a cheer and family having fun. But then there is also times when people decide to kill or families are going through a divorce or a loved one just recently passed away. In my point of view he seems to be getting tired of the holidays and doesn't seemed interested anymore. Well great job on your blog!
