A Dog Has Died By: Pablo Neruda

hello scholars, for the month of February i have decided to write another blog about Pablo Neruda (remember from January). the poem that i chose is called A Dog has Died. this poem sounds, to me, like a sad poem. the reason is because it is talking about the death of his dog ans how he is going to join him one day and he remembers his dog. to really know what he is talking about or what he was trying to say, we are going to break it all down.

"My dog has died. I buried him in the garden next to a rusted old machine. Some day I'll join him right there, but now he's gone with his shaggy coat, his bad manners and his cold nose, and I, the materialist, who never believed in any promised heaven in the sky for any human being, I believe in a heaven I'll never enter. Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom where my dog waits for my arrival waving his fan-like tail in friendship." for this part, Pablo is talking about his dog dying and he is burying him in a garden next to a machine. (i wouldn't bury my dog next to a machine) he also talks about him one day joining him but for now he leaves with his cold nose, his fur, and his bad manners. and he, who doesn't believe in heaven believes that there is a heaven for dogs where his dog is waiting for him. so far, Pablo is talking about him burying his dog and that his dog leaves and takes all of his cahracteristics and is waiting for him in doggy heaven.

"Ai, I'll not speak of sadness here on earth, of having lost a companion who was never servile. His friendship for me, like that of a porcupine with holding its authority, was the friendship of a star, aloof, with no more intimacy than was called for, with no exaggerations:he never climbed all over my clothes filling me full of his hair or his mange, he never rubbed up against my knee like other dogs obsessed with sex." on this part of the poem he is talking about how he is not going to talk about his pain here because it is not selfish. his freindship means a lot to him and he never got his hairs on his clothes or was horny like other dogs. for this part, he is talking about the good things that he liked about his dog.

"No, my dog used to gaze at me, paying me the attention I need, the attention required to make a vain person like me understand that, being a dog, he was wasting time, but, with those eyes so much purer than mine, he'd keep on gazing at me with a look that reserved for me alone all his sweet and shaggy life, always near me, never troubling me, and asking nothing." for this part of the poem, Pablo is just talking about what his dog use to do and how good he felt when his dog looked at him and the things that he did. i really don't know what this part of the poem is trying to say, so if you guys do know then comment on it.

"Ai, how many times have I envied his tail as we walked together on the shores of the sea in the lonely winter of Isla Negra where the wintering birds filled the sky and my hairy dog was jumping about full of the voltage of the sea's movement: my wandering dog, sniffing away with his golden tail held high, face to face with the ocean's spray. Joyful, joyful, joyful, as only dogs know how to be happy with only the autonomy of their shameless spirit. There are no good-byes for my dog who has died, and we don't now and never did lie to each other. So now he's gone and I buried him, and that's all there is to it." for this last part of the poem he talks about his dog like if he was actually there with him (at least that is what it looks like to me).

if you have any comments on what the poem means to you then don't forget to write them in the comments.

If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda

Hello, happy new year!!! I hope that you had a happy Christmas and good year so far, I know that I did. anyway, for this months blog I am going to talk about one of Pablo Neruda's poems name "If You Forget Me." The reason why I chose this poem is because someone really recommended me to read one of his poems. They told me that he is a good poet and there were several things that I learned about him. One thing that I learned was that he is also a Reyes and that Pablo Neruda is not his real name. If you want to learn more about him there is a link for you guys to learn more about him.

The poem that I decided to write about for this month is named If You Forget Me. I had to read the poem around three times to finally see what it meant; at least to me. to me, the poem sounds like someone has a broken heart and is trying to get by. I am trying to say that the peom sounds like a guy that doesn't want his love forgetting or something, if she does he will try to do the same thing. the poem is talking about how everything reminds the author of the person he loves and that if she forgets about him, he will also forget. also, that if she still loves him and she still loves him, he will still love her.

i chose this poem because it sounds like a love that will always be there and also when the love is gone all the person wants to do is forget but not pretend that it never happened because then it will be really messed up. if you guys have a differenet meaning to this or have any other reasons why you like the poem then don't forget to put it as part of the comment.

Christmas Time by Courtney Mayer

Well hello again, for the month of December I have decided to post a blog about Christmas. The poem that I chose to do this month is called Christmas Time by Courtney Mayer. I chose this poem because I wanted to chose a poem based on the month, since this month is about Christmas I decided chose a Christmas poem, in January the poem would be about resolutions and a new year.

To me, this poem sounds kind of like "oh my god, another Christmas." I don't know why but it sounds like this person does not like Christmas or just looks at the bad things about Christmas. For example, in the poem it says: Nows' the time that it gets cold. It's getting close to the holidays, these Christmas songs are getting really old. Ain't these times supposed to be jolly days? Well, it really doesn't sound that way but it sounds bad. You'll be the judge of that.

To me, the poem means that Christmas time is the time where the family will gather and some relatives will pinch your cheeks even though you don't like it. Personally, I don't like my relatives pinch my cheeks because when they do it, it hurts a lot. Anyway, it also means that almost everyday carolers will be singing outside your door until you get tired of the same Christmas songs. When you go outside to play, you tend to fall and skin your knees. What the author is trying to say is that even though Christmas is the time where we all tend to be happy we still have some sad parts.

If you have other meanings to this poem please put it, it would really help.you be the judge of that.

The Door in the Dark By: Robert Frost

This poem is about about someone is in the dark and is trying to get to the door that is in the dark. The person is reaching into the dark and reaches for the door. That person gets the door and he tries to open it. When the person opens the door, the door slams into his face, unguard, and the door hits him in the face really hard that he sort of loses conscious( he doesn't fall). Now the things are not the same as they were before he was hit in the head.
I chose this poem because Robert Frost poems are really good to read. He puts thought into his poems and it shows. Robert knows how to captivate his audience with is poems. Frost has written various poems and they have been translated into different languages.

P.S. you may see some more Robert Frost poems.

Because I could not stop for Death by Emily Dickinson

This poem talks about death. It mainly talks about how death has stopped for him even though he couldn't stop for him. In this poem, death is portrayed as a good person. Emily Dickinson tells her readers in this poem that Death is not always mean that he will wait for you even if you don't want to wait for him.

People often try to portray Death as an evil thing that comes to take you for eternity. People have told this view for centuries. Emily Dickinson did not follow that concept and decided to write about Death in a more friendly way. Usually people would talk bad about death and portray him as a thing that comes and takes you away for eternity. Emily portrays death has a kind thing that waits for you until you are ready and leads you through eternity seeing your love ones as you leave.

Welcome

Hello people from AP English and Composition and maybe other people. My name is Vanessa Reyes and I am in the 11th grade; one more year and I am a senior. My topic that I will be talking about and writing about is poems. On the previous blog I wrote about what is poetry. Throughout the year I am going to be posting up poems or part of poems and analyzing them, I am going post a new poem each month. For now, I am going to welcome you to my blog for this year and maybe continue with it after AP English and Composition.
The reason why I chose to write about poems and analyzing them is because I really like poems. The way people write about themselves and many other people it is very fascinating. I really enjoy reading poems about people who have gone thought a lot of things and I feel that they are brave because they are able to express themselves in writing and not a lot of people are able to write things down and they act on those emotions without thinking about the consequences. Another reason why I chose to write about poems was because it is an easier way to write than doing it in big paragraphs.
From poems I understand several things. one thing that I understand is that there is different kinds of style of poems and there are others that are going to discover. I also understand its differences with regular paragraph form. There are many things that I do not know about poems and I really want to learn about it. One thing would be who was the person who wrote the first poem and who discovered it. I also want to know who has made the longest poem or poem related recorded down.

Introduction

Poems are a way to express yourself in many ways. The first way to be able to express yourself is when you are mad or feeling something, you can write it down and maybe be able to share it with other people and help them express themselves the way you did. there are different kinds of poetry. one kind of poetry is a found poetry. a found poetry is a poems that is found within a text. another type of poem is called free verse. free verse is poetry without rules.
Poetry is different from a prose and a narrative. A poem has a speaker and not a narrator like a narrative. It has a rhythm and when the words are said it makes a sound and makes the words sound important. In a poem, the words are arranged in lines. Poems can contain metaphors, similes, personification, hyperbole and many other types of figure of speech.
